Microgreens And Other Seed Suppliers Europe

microgreens seed supplier europe

Microgreens and other seed suppliers: Europe.

If you are new to this post, please look into the introduction of our series of blog posts on seed suppliers around the world HERE. We already published blog posts with microgreens seed suppliers in America, you can see for yourself HERE. This second post is for microgreens & seed suppliers in Europe. We researched the European market and found quite some suppliers. Some of them are selling in bulk (which we do recommend, when growing commercially or in bigger quantities), and some of them sell regular small packages, more appropriate for home growers, who are passionate about microgreens. Some of the companies do sell internationally, but if not, it is stated below, or it is better to directly contact them, to see, what else it is needed for shipping abroad. Quite a few suppliers have a very wide range of different seed varieties. Which is very good, so that you can choose, with which you would like to start or expand your portfolio.

Disclaimer: Some of the products may contain an affiliate link and we may make a commission if you click on it at no additional costs to you.

This post is up-to-date (as of February 2020). Which means, that we are regularly updating, due to new suppliers or (re)-sellers. Please note, that we listed producers of microgreens and other seeds, but also (re)-sellers, because in some countries, you can get microgreens seeds or sprouting seeds just at some grocery/garden/e-shop stores/sellers.

There could be some shipping challenges, especially for suppliers/sellers from the UK, because on 31st January 2020, they are supposed to leave the European Union (Brexit – Britain exit European Unit). Here are some points due to Brexit from Fresh Produce Journal (source: http://www.fruitnet.com/fpj/article/174370/british-production-threatened-by-brexit-impact-on-seeds-business).

The UK seed sector could be removed from both the EU common catalogue and the plant rights system, which protects the Intellectual Property of varieties registered for marketing across the EU. In this case, EU breeders wishing to market in the UK would have to re-register in the UK on a national list, something that has already begun, and visa versa for British breeders wishing to market varieties in the EU.

Another issue is if the UK is designated a third country breeders will need phytosanitary certification for every seed lot entering or leaving the UK, bringing significant additional costs and delays.

microgreens and other seed suppliers europe

With that being said, you need to calculate additional costs for your shipment, and also for phytosanitary certification if it will be needed.

Important: Some of the companies, who have their own companies, or warehouse also in different EU countries that have a partnership across the UK, will be in advantage, because, they will be free of all these procedures and costs. That’s why it is important to communicate directly to the relating company (especially if you have bigger orders), if they have any solutions to Brexit.

ADDing latest news:

From 1st February 2020 until 31st December 2020 (11 months) there will be a Transition Period whereby goods can be traded between the UK & EU member states without any customs clearance formalities at the point of entry into the UK or out of the UK. This will essentially mean that for the remainder of 2020, trade in goods and services will continue as they have previously (whilst the UK was an EU member state).

In 2021 and beyond the UK will trade with the EU under new rules and guidelines. They currently do not know what trading relationship will be agreed between the EU & UK, nor do they know with certainty whether the transition period will be extended into 2021.

If you need more details on which seeds, to choose from, what do you need to look for, when buying, please see our introduction blog post on gathered seeds suppliers HERE.
